Pakistan Says Forces Killed Twenty-Two Militants in Border Operation
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s security forces carried out an operation in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, close to the Afghan border, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 militants, according to statements released on Friday. The action took place in the Khyber district on April 21 and was described as intelligence-driven by the military’s media wing, as stated by reports.
During the operation, officials said the militants responded with heavy and indiscriminate gunfire. "Due to cowardice and fear of getting apprehended alive, Khwarij (militants) resorted to indiscriminate firing which resulted in martyrdom of a ten years old innocent child," the military said.
Authorities also reported the seizure of weapons and ammunition from those killed, noting that the individuals had allegedly been involved in multiple attacks in the region.
According to statements, Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant activity in recent years, which it links to the Afghanistan-based Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
