Trump Says No Deadline Set for Ending Iran Conflict

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has said that Washington is not operating under any fixed timeline to bring the ongoing conflict with Iran to an end.

He stated that there is “no time frame” for concluding the war and no urgency to wrap up the fighting, according to comments made during a Fox News interview. Trump also dismissed suggestions that domestic political pressures, including upcoming midterm elections, were influencing his position.

His remarks differ from earlier statements in which he indicated the conflict would be resolved within a matter of weeks and repeatedly suggested it would end “very soon” following the initial escalation in late February.

The president said his administration’s goal is to secure what he described as a favorable agreement for the United States and emphasized that negotiations would proceed on Washington’s terms.

He also suggested that economic pressure measures, including restrictions on Iranian maritime activity, were having a stronger impact than military action alone.

Meanwhile, the ceasefire arrangement with Tehran was reportedly extended without a clear end date, while restrictions affecting Iranian ports remain in place. The extension came shortly before a previously agreed truce was set to expire.

Iran has reportedly declined participation in recent talks, stating that discussions are not meaningful while current US policies remain unchanged. Iranian officials have maintained that negotiations will not resume unless certain conditions are addressed.

Tehran has also signaled a hard stance, with officials stating they are prepared to continue resisting US pressure until what they describe as a decisive outcome is reached.
