Syria, UAE Leaders Hold Talks on Security, Economic Cooperation
(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, focusing on regional security matters and opportunities to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed ongoing developments across the region and the challenges they present, while also examining potential ways to broaden economic partnerships and support broader development initiatives, according to the Syrian presidency.
Both sides also highlighted the need for continued coordination in order to preserve stability in the region.
Al-Sharaa reportedly expressed Syria’s support for the UAE and opposed any actions that could threaten its sovereignty and security, referring to what he described as recent Iranian attacks, according to the statement.
An UAE’s state news agency reported that the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in a manner that promotes development and sustained economic growth for both sides.
The visit to Abu Dhabi is part of a wider Gulf tour by the Syrian president, which has already included stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
In Doha, al-Sharaa met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where discussions centered on bilateral relations and regional developments.
Earlier, in Saudi Arabia, he held talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with both sides focusing on expanding economic cooperation and discussing infrastructure and connectivity projects across the region.
