US Advises Citizens to Leave Lebanon Amid Intensified Security Risks
(MENAFN) According to reports, the US Embassy in Beirut has urged American citizens in Lebanon to depart the country, pointing to what it described as a “complex” and rapidly changing security environment.
In its statement, the embassy said, “We urge US citizens to depart Lebanon while commercial flight options remain available,” encouraging those who choose to stay to prepare contingency plans for emergencies and to stay updated on breaking developments through news sources.
The embassy also warned that “There are ongoing risks of terrorism and kidnapping throughout Lebanon,” adding that locations frequently visited by American citizens and tourists in Beirut and other parts of the country “may become a target for these attacks.” It further advised US citizens to avoid protests and large gatherings.
The warning came shortly after an exchange of fire on Wednesday between the Israeli military and Hezbollah, despite a recently declared 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel that began on Friday. The truce was intended to pause Israel’s expanded military operations in Lebanon, which have reportedly resulted in 2,294 deaths, 7,544 injuries, and the displacement of more than one million people since March 2.
The advisory was issued just ahead of US-mediated discussions between Lebanon and Israel scheduled for Thursday.
