US Halts Arms Deliveries to Estonia Amid Ongoing Iran War
(MENAFN) The United States has reportedly suspended arms shipments to Estonia while it remains engaged in its military campaign against Iran, according to local media cited in reports.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth informed him during a phone call that Washington would be pausing all weapons deliveries to the Baltic country, according to Estonia’s public broadcaster ERR.
The suspension is said to primarily affect supplies of HIMARS rocket artillery ammunition and Javelin anti-tank missiles, which are key components of Estonia’s defense procurement.
It remains uncertain whether Finland will face similar restrictions. Finland shares a long border with Russia and, like Estonia, has significantly increased its defense planning since the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said the reported suspension does not currently impact Finland’s defense capabilities, while Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen declined to comment on stockpiles or procurement details.
The Finnish Defense Ministry told public broadcaster Yle that it has not received confirmation from the United States regarding any suspension of Finnish weapons orders. However, officials noted that Washington has indicated possible delays in future deliveries during recent communications.
Finland had previously agreed to purchase missile and rocket systems from the United States for use in various defense applications, including integration with fighter aircraft.
Both Estonia and Finland have significantly expanded their military capabilities in recent years due to heightened security concerns stemming from their proximity to Russia.
