Zelenskyy Says EU Loan Deal for Ukraine Now Moving Forward
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that the process of implementing an agreement with the European Union to unlock a €90 billion ($105.4 billion) financial package for Ukraine is now “effectively underway,” according to reports.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Zelenskyy also said that work is progressing on a new sanctions package targeting Russia amid the ongoing war, according to reports.
He described the approval of the funding as a “positive signal” under current conditions, arguing that meaningful pressure on Russia combined with sustained support for Ukraine is necessary to encourage an end to the conflict. He said Russia should be compelled to stop its war, according to reports.
Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine is meeting its obligations in its relationship with the EU, including on sensitive infrastructure issues such as the operation of the Druzhba oil pipeline.
He added that Kyiv expects the EU to move forward with measures needed for “real protection of lives” and continued progress toward full European integration, according to reports.
He stressed the importance of rapidly activating the European support package and said Ukraine will continue engaging with European leaders on opening accession clusters as part of its EU membership process.
The remarks came as reports indicated that the EU had approved a €90 billion loan package for Ukraine alongside a new round of sanctions against Russia, after Hungary reportedly withdrew its previous objections to the measures.
