Lawmakers, Diplomats Urge Stronger Global Action on Gaza Crisis

(MENAFN) Political figures, diplomats, and public representatives from several regions gathered in Brussels on Wednesday to demand stronger international coordination over the situation in Gaza, while sharply criticizing what they described as global inaction and inconsistent responses by major institutions.

The meeting took place alongside the ongoing Global Sumud Flotilla initiative, which set sail toward Gaza on April 12, according to reports.

Participants at the congress argued that the international response to developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories has been insufficient, urging governments and institutions to adopt coordinated political and economic measures.

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, said the issue extends beyond recognition of rights and instead concerns enforcement of international obligations. According to reports, she stated that member states and companies have responsibilities “not to trade, not to aid and assist” in what she described as serious violations, calling for stronger global coordination to address alleged complicity in supply chains and commerce.

Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as severe, pointing to ongoing violence and shortages of essential goods, according to reports.

The discussions collectively emphasized growing frustration among participants over the international community’s response and called for more unified and decisive action.
