Activist Flotilla Vows to Block Ships Over Military Supply Links to Israel

(MENAFN) A group of pro-Palestinian activists heading toward Gaza has indicated it will continue efforts to physically obstruct vessels it suspects of transporting goods tied to Israel’s military, following a recent operation involving one of the largest cargo ships in the Mediterranean, as stated by reports.

On Monday, over 20 boats affiliated with the Global Sumud Flotilla surrounded the MSC Maya, a massive container ship measuring close to 400 meters in length, in what organizers described as a coordinated attempt to disrupt shipments believed to be connected to Israel’s defense supply chain. According to the group, the ship was en route to Israeli ports carrying materials intended for military-related production.

“From now on, we are blocking any complicit vessel that crosses our path on the way to Gaza,” Brazilian activist Thiago Avila told Anadolu.

The flotilla, which set sail from Barcelona on April 12, now consists of more than 70 vessels and nearly 1,000 participants, with additional boats expected to join as it continues across the Mediterranean. Organizers have described it as their most extensive mission to date.

“We’re not doing this because we want to, we’re doing it because it’s necessary. It’s been six months and no real ceasefire in Gaza. People are still being killed, they’re still being hindered, and the land is being taken,” said Avila, 39, aboard a vessel near Sicily.
