Afghanistan Hails US-Iran Diplomatic Efforts, Urges Continued Dialogue

(MENAFN) Afghanistan’s foreign minister expressed support on Wednesday for ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States, describing them as a positive move and underscoring the need for dialogue to help resolve tensions in the Middle East, as stated by reports.

Amir Khan Muttaqi shared these views during a phone call with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, according to reports. He characterized engagement between Tehran and Washington as a “constructive step,” while highlighting that negotiations and communication remain essential for addressing disputes.

During the discussion, both officials also reviewed ties between their countries. Muttaqi noted that cooperation between Kabul and Tehran has been advancing steadily, pointing to growing trade and wider collaboration as signs of improving relations. He expressed satisfaction with the overall progress in bilateral engagement.

For his part, Araghchi updated the Afghan minister on recent developments in discussions involving Iran and the United States.

According to reports, a second round of negotiations between the two sides had been anticipated this week in Pakistan. However, Tehran indicated it would not participate unless Washington lifts what it described as an “illegal” blockade affecting Iranian ports.
