Kashmir Districts Plan Air Raid Mock Drills

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The district administrations across Kashmir have announced civil defence mock drills, including air raid simulations and brief night blackouts, as part of emergency preparedness measures.

According to official notices, Kupwara will conduct the exercise on April 24, with a drill at 3:30 PM followed by a blackout from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM. Anantnag will hold a similar exercise a day earlier, on April 23, with identical timings for both the daytime drill and the evening blackout.

Meanwhile, in Ganderbal district, the administration has finalised arrangements for a large-scale mock drill scheduled for Thursday. The exercise will simulate an air raid and district-wide blackout at Government Degree College (GDC) Ganderbal.

Officials said multiple agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), first response teams, medical units, NCC cadets and traffic police, will participate in the drill.

Officials said the exercises are aimed at familiarising residents with emergency response protocols and evaluating preparedness at both the administrative and public levels.

Authorities have advised residents to strictly adhere to guidelines during the blackout period. This includes switching off all lights and sources of illumination such as inverters, solar lights, mobile flashlights and vehicle lights immediately after the siren sounds. Residents have also been asked to draw curtains or cover windows to prevent any light from escaping.

Special care has been advised for elderly persons, children and those with health conditions to minimise distress during the exercise.

The administrations have clarified that essential and emergency services will remain operational throughout the drill. Reiterating that the exercise is purely a mock drill, officials urged the public not to panic and to cooperate for its smooth conduct.
