Amnesty International: Ali Wazir Held On“Fabricated” Charges

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) Amnesty International says that Ali Wazir, a former member of Pakistan's National Assembly, has been detained on“fabricated” charges and has called on Pakistani authorities to release him immediately.

According to the organization's report, Ali Wazir was arrested on March 16 in Hyderabad, Pakistan, on terrorism-related charges. This comes after he had been released the same day on bail granted by the Sindh High Court in a separate case.

Amnesty International added that two additional cases were later filed against him. The organization says that since 2020, Ali Wazir has been arrested multiple times and has faced dozens of“fabricated” cases.

The report states that Wazir's activities have largely focused on issues such as extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and discrimination and violence against the Pashtun ethnic minority.

Amnesty International described these actions as“arbitrary and unlawful” and urged Pakistani authorities to release him without delay.
