UK Backs US-Iran Ceasefire Extension, Urges New Negotiations

(MENAFN) The United Kingdom has welcomed the decision by the United States to extend its ceasefire with Iran and has urged a swift return to negotiations, as stated by reports.

Speaking on Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the extension should pave the way for renewed diplomacy and a broader agreement.

“We want to see negotiations restart, a comprehensive settlement and full reopening of the Strait without restrictions or tolls,” she wrote on social media platform X, according to reports.

Her comments followed an announcement by US President Donald Trump that Washington would prolong the ceasefire with Iran to allow time for Tehran to prepare what he called a “unified proposal,” following a request from Pakistani officials.

Cooper also warned that any resumption of fighting would have serious consequences for regional stability, the global economy, and living costs, as stated by reports.

The ceasefire, which was initially introduced earlier this month, had been due to expire on Wednesday before being extended.
