Israeli Forces Conduct Raid, Open Fire in Syria’s Quneitra Countryside

(MENAFN) Israeli forces carried out a raid in the countryside of Quneitra on Tuesday evening near the Ruweihina Dam area, opening heavy fire during the operation, according to a Syrian news agency.

The report said a unit of seven Israeli military vehicles entered the area and fired intensively into the air before later withdrawing toward their positions.

The news agency also reported earlier that day that Israeli forces detained three people, including two children, during separate incursions in the same province.

The developments come despite recent remarks by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who said in an interview that negotiations with Israel have not collapsed but remain difficult due to Israel’s continued insistence on maintaining a presence on Syrian territory.

In recent months, Israeli military activity in southern Syria has reportedly become frequent, including raids on residential areas, the setting up of checkpoints, and arrests of civilians such as children and shepherds.

Following the political changes in Syria in late 2024, Israel declared the 1974 disengagement agreement void and expanded its presence into the buffer zone area.

Despite no declared military threats from the current Syrian administration, Israeli forces have continued operations that include airstrikes, which reports say have resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of military sites, vehicles, and ammunition depots.
