UN Reports Surge in Gaza Violence Since Ceasefire
(MENAFN) The United Nations said Tuesday that incidents of violence in the Gaza Strip increased sharply in mid-April, reaching the highest weekly level recorded since a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that UN partners on the ground documented a 46% rise in incidents such as gunfire, shelling, and airstrikes between April 12 and 18 compared with the previous week.
He noted that the most significant increases were recorded in northern Gaza as well as in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah, indicating widespread deterioration across multiple parts of the territory.
Dujarric also warned that humanitarian operations are being hindered by restrictions affecting efforts to deal with unexploded ordnance, which continues to pose a serious risk to civilians.
He said that while aid partners have conducted large-scale awareness sessions for civilians, effective clearance of explosive remnants requires specialized equipment and broader operational access, which is currently limited.
According to the UN, these constraints are slowing the overall humanitarian response, particularly in areas where the risk from unexploded munitions remains high.
The reported surge in violence comes amid continuing allegations of ceasefire violations.
