US Boards Sanctioned Vessel in Indo-Pacific Over Iran-Linked Activity
(MENAFN) US forces have boarded a stateless, sanctioned vessel in the Indo-Pacific region as part of operations aimed at disrupting maritime activity linked to support for Iran, the Pentagon said.
The US Department of Defense stated on social media that its forces carried out a “right-of-visit” boarding and maritime interdiction operation overnight against the vessel identified as M/T Tifani, according to the announcement.
The operation was conducted without incident in the US Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility, the statement added.
The Pentagon said it continues global maritime enforcement efforts targeting what it described as illicit networks and sanctioned ships suspected of providing material support to Iran, regardless of where they operate.
It also emphasized that international waters cannot be used as a safe haven for sanctioned vessels and reiterated its intention to restrict what it called illicit maritime actors from operating freely at sea.
