Pakistan Prepares for US-Iran Talks as Ceasefire Deadline Approaches
(MENAFN) Pakistan is continuing preparations for a potential second round of talks between the United States and Iran, as a temporary ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review security and administrative measures ahead of the expected negotiations.
While US officials have indicated that Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation, Iran has not yet confirmed whether it will participate. Tehran has also called for the lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports as part of its conditions.
Officials in Islamabad said preparations are complete for hosting the talks, with heightened security measures in place across the capital’s heavily fortified Red Zone, which contains key government buildings and diplomatic missions.
A Pakistani official said arrangements remain active, but the exact timing of the talks is still uncertain, according to local remarks.
As part of security precautions, authorities have sealed off the Red Zone and directed schools and offices in the area to operate remotely. Security forces remain on high alert in anticipation of possible foreign delegations.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also briefed Prime Minister Sharif on his recent meetings with the US and Iranian ambassadors, as well as the overall security planning for the anticipated diplomatic engagement.
