At Least 248 US Military Flights Over Ireland Underreported

(MENAFN) An investigation has revealed that at least 248 US military flights over Ireland were not properly reported since last summer, according to findings reported by media.

The probe identified additional movements involving military transport aircraft, troop carriers, and surveillance planes that were absent from official records.

Data also indicates a 56% rise in US military overflights of Ireland last month, coinciding with a period in which the United States carried out hundreds of strikes on Iran.

The discrepancy was acknowledged by the Irish Foreign Ministry, which attributed the missing figures to an administrative error.

On Thursday, the ministry reissued overflight statistics covering the past eight months, adding 248 previously uncounted flights to the official record.

The department regularly publishes monthly data tracking foreign military aircraft passing through Irish airspace.

Typically, US military aircraft are recorded flying over Ireland between 30 and 50 times per month. However, official figures had previously shown that in September the number dropped sharply to as few as two flights.

Among the aircraft tracked were C-130 transport planes, commonly used for moving troops and military equipment.

Separately, authorities last week arrested a man in connection with an alleged attack on a similar type of aircraft after it landed at Shannon Airport.
