US Embassy Renews Its Warning Against Traveling to Iraq

(MENAFN) According to reports, the US Embassy in Baghdad has renewed its travel warning for Iraq, urging American citizens currently in the country to depart immediately due to heightened security concerns.

As stated by reports, the embassy issued a security alert saying, “Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. Leave now if you are there.”

The warning cited ongoing threats from Iran-aligned armed groups, which it said continue to plan attacks targeting US citizens and interests across Iraq, including in northern regions.

According to reports, the embassy also alleged that certain elements linked to the Iraqi government are providing political, financial, and operational support to these armed groups.

It further noted that Iraqi airspace has reopened and limited commercial flights are operating, but warned that risks remain from missiles, drones, and rocket attacks, advising travelers to remain cautious.

As stated by reports, the US diplomatic mission in Iraq remains operational under an ordered departure status and continues to provide assistance to American citizens remotely.

The embassy also instructed US nationals not to travel to its facilities in Baghdad or Erbil due to serious security risks, and instead to use electronic communication channels for support.

According to reports, the renewed advisory comes amid broader regional tensions following recent military actions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which have further escalated instability across the region.
