Fatalities Rise to Seven After Kyiv Shooting Incident
(MENAFN) According to reports, the death toll from a shooting incident in Ukraine’s capital has increased to seven after another injured victim died in hospital.
As stated by reports, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Monday via Telegram that one more injured person had succumbed to their injuries, while seven others remain hospitalized.
Reports indicate that on Saturday, six people were initially killed and 14 others were injured when a gunman opened fire in a street and inside a supermarket in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district.
According to reports, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said the attacker, described as a “native of Moscow,” fired on civilians before barricading himself inside the supermarket and taking hostages. Police later stormed the building and shot him dead.
As stated by reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media platform X that the suspect was born in Russia and had lived for a long period in the Donetsk region. He added that the individual had previously faced criminal prosecution and that investigations into the motive were ongoing.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that all available information is being thoroughly reviewed and that every detail must be verified.
According to reports, Ukraine’s Security Service has opened an investigation into the incident, treating it as a possible “terrorist act.”
