US to Weigh Pakistani Advice on Hormuz Amid Iran Negotiation Efforts
(MENAFN) According to reports, US President Donald Trump is set to “consider advice” from Pakistan’s army leadership regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions in the region continue to complicate diplomatic efforts with Iran.
As stated by reports, Pakistani sources said Trump discussed the issue in a phone call with Asim Munir, who reportedly highlighted that the blockade of the key waterway is creating obstacles for ongoing negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz, which has seen restricted access amid heightened regional tensions, is described as a critical factor affecting the possibility of renewed talks between the United States and Iran.
According to reports, Munir told Trump that the disruption of maritime traffic in the area is directly impacting diplomatic progress, while the US president responded that he would take the recommendation into account.
Reports indicate that discussions also touched on Pakistan’s mediation role between the two sides ahead of a potential new round of talks expected to take place in Islamabad.
As stated by reports, the Pakistani side has been facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran since the outbreak of conflict in late February, which previously led to a temporary ceasefire arrangement in early April.
Tehran has not yet formally confirmed participation in the next round of talks but has reportedly insisted on the lifting of restrictions affecting Iranian maritime access as a key condition.
