Russia, Ukraine Trade Accusations Over Overnight Drone Attacks
(MENAFN) Russia and Ukraine have each blamed the other for a series of overnight strikes that reportedly left one person dead and four others injured, according to official statements and reports.
Authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region said a large-scale drone attack targeted the city of Tuapse. The regional governor stated that the assault resulted in one fatality and one injury. He added that the strike sparked a fire at the local seaport, while falling debris damaged multiple structures, including a school, kindergarten, museum, church, residential buildings, and a gas pipeline.
Footage shared on Ukrainian Telegram channels appeared to show a major blaze at a facility described as the only oil refinery on Russia’s Black Sea coast, and one of the oldest industrial sites in the port city.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems intercepted 112 drones across several regions, including Astrakhan, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Krasnodar Krai, as well as Crimea and areas over the Azov and Black seas.
On the Ukrainian side, military officials said Russia had launched 142 drones during the night, claiming that 113 of them were successfully shot down.
Regional authorities in Ukraine reported injuries as a result of the attacks, with one person hurt in the Kyiv region and two others in the Kharkiv region.
The conflicting claims from both sides could not be independently verified due to the ongoing conflict.
