Trump Inks Executive Order Expanding Access to Psychedelic Treatments

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has approved an executive order designed to widen the availability of certain psychedelic substances for treating mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

According to reports, the measure sets aside $50 million in federal funding to support access to these treatments and directs the Food and Drug Administration to speed up its evaluation process for substances including psilocybin and ibogaine.

As stated by reports, the administration is working to accelerate the regulatory pathway for therapies involving psychedelic compounds.

The signing event was attended by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mehmet Oz, who currently leads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

According to reports, the FDA is expected next week to introduce national priority vouchers for three psychedelic drugs. The agency’s commissioner, Mary Makary, indicated that this step could shorten review timelines to just a few weeks, marking the first instance of expedited approval procedures being applied to psychedelics.

During the signing, the president presented the initiative as part of broader efforts to confront a nationwide mental health crisis, including rising suicide rates.
