Bulgarians Vote in Early Parliamentary Election Amid Political Instability

(MENAFN) According to reports, Bulgarians are voting in an early parliamentary election on Sunday, marking the country’s eighth legislative vote in the past five years.

Around 6.6 million citizens are eligible to elect 240 members of parliament from a large field of more than 4,700 candidates representing 14 political parties, 10 coalitions, and one independent contender, as stated by the Central Election Commission.

Polling stations across the country opened at 7 a.m. local time and are scheduled to close at 8 p.m., while additional voting locations have been set up in 55 countries and regions to allow citizens abroad to participate.

Exit polls are expected to be released immediately after voting ends, with final results anticipated by April 23.

The election follows months of political uncertainty after the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s coalition government in December 2025, which stepped down amid widespread protests over economic policies. Subsequent efforts by parliamentary parties to form a new government were unsuccessful, making fresh elections necessary.
