IMF Lifts Algeria’s Economic Growth Outlook to 3.8 Percent

(MENAFN) The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lifted its economic growth projection for Algeria to 3.8 percent in 2026, signaling stronger-than-expected performance despite mounting geopolitical pressures worldwide, a news agency reported.

According to the IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook released Tuesday, Algeria’s economy is set to expand at 3.8 percent in 2026—an increase from the 2.9 percent forecast issued in October 2025, marking a 0.9 percentage point upward revision.

The IMF noted that this performance is all the more noteworthy given the complexity of the current global economic environment, the news agency reported.

This improved outlook for Algeria contrasts sharply with the IMF’s more cautious global projections. The report indicates that worldwide growth is now expected to ease to 3.1 percent in 2026, as ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted earlier economic momentum.

Separately, on April 10, the World Bank also upgraded its forecast for Algeria, projecting 3.7 percent growth in 2026—0.2 percentage points higher than its January estimate. Algeria is among just three economies in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAAP) region to receive upward revisions, underscoring improving economic prospects.
