Zelenskyy Set for Talks with Germany’s Merz in Berlin
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy touched down in the German capital Berlin on Tuesday for a critical round of diplomacy, with a scheduled meeting with Chancellor Friedrich Merz topping his agenda.
The arrival was confirmed by Presidential Press Secretary Serhii Nykyforov in statements to Ukrainian media.
Nykyforov said the president's itinerary in Berlin includes direct negotiations with Merz, as well as participation in inter-governmental consultations. Following the conclusion of their talks, Zelenskyy and Merz are expected to deliver joint statements to the press, Nykyforov confirmed.
Berlin is only the first stop on what shapes up to be an intensive day of European diplomacy. Zelenskyy is also set to travel to Norway later Tuesday, where he will hold talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
The whirlwind European tour carries significant strategic weight. On Monday, Zelenskyy disclosed that Kyiv is actively laying the groundwork for deeper security arrangements across the continent, expressing confidence that his government expects to "achieve results this very week."
The push builds on remarks the Ukrainian leader made last week, when he pledged to hold talks "in the near future" with European partners on a range of pressing issues — including coordinated defenses against Russian drone attacks and Ukraine's long-pursued path toward EU membership.
