Russia Accuses Ukraine Forces of 6,558 Ceasefire Violations

(MENAFN) Russia's Defense Ministry declared Monday that combat activity by Ukrainian forces showed a partial reduction during daylight hours of the Orthodox Easter ceasefire, even as it accused Kyiv's military of committing 6,558 separate truce violations throughout the period.

Despite the temporary halt in hostilities, the ministry charged that Ukrainian forces pressed ahead with drone and artillery strikes targeting Russian military positions, as well as civilian infrastructure in the border regions of Belgorod and Kursk.

The ministry further detailed that Ukrainian armed forces carried out 694 direct attacks on Russian military positions during the ceasefire window. In one reported incident, a Ukrainian drone struck a gas station in the city of Lgov in the Kursk region, the ministry added.

With the ceasefire window officially expired, the Russian Armed Forces announced the full resumption of what Moscow calls its special military operation, according to the defense ministry statement.

The dueling accusations highlight the fragile and contested nature of the brief truce, as both Russia and Ukraine reported that active hostilities persisted on the ground throughout the ceasefire period — casting serious doubt over prospects for any sustained halt to the nearly three-year-old conflict.
