Damage from U.S.-Israel Strikes Against Iran Put at USD270B

(MENAFN) Iran has estimated the damage inflicted by US-Israeli strikes on its territory at approximately $270 billion, the country's government spokeswoman revealed Tuesday, citing figures drawn from preliminary assessments.

The declaration signals that war reparations have become a formal demand on Tehran's negotiating agenda — a position that could significantly complicate already deadlocked diplomatic efforts.

"One of the issues that our negotiating team is pursuing, and which was also pursued in the Islamabad talks, is the issue of war reparations," spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani told Russian media, as reported by an Iranian news agency.

Mohajerani was careful to frame the figure as provisional, stressing that the $270 billion estimate is not final and adding: "Damages usually have to be examined in several layers."

The conflict was set in motion on Feb. 28, when Washington and Tel Aviv launched coordinated strikes against Iran, resulting in thousands of casualties. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf states hosting US military installations, before a two-week ceasefire was announced last week.

Efforts to convert that ceasefire into a lasting agreement have so far fallen short. Iranian and US delegations wrapped up 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, in the early hours of Sunday — walking away without a deal.
