Iran’s Qalibaf Warns of Further Rise in US Fuel Prices
(MENAFN) Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s parliament, has suggested that fuel prices in the United States could rise further as tensions between the two countries intensify.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, he told Americans to “enjoy the current pump figures,” warning that with the ongoing situation involving maritime restrictions, consumers could soon be “nostalgic for $4-$5 gas,” according to reports.
He also attached an image showing gasoline prices near the White House ranging from approximately $4.10 to $5.80 per gallon, using it to underline his point about current fuel costs.
The remarks came shortly after comments by US President Donald Trump, who said oil and gasoline prices could remain elevated through the upcoming midterm elections amid continuing tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran. Trump added that prices could stay roughly the same or potentially increase slightly, depending on market conditions.
Qalibaf’s comments were made shortly before an announcement by United States Central Command that it would begin enforcing restrictions on maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports starting Monday.
The exchange of statements reflects escalating political and economic rhetoric between the two sides, following a recent round of talks in Islamabad that ended without an agreement, according to reports.
