Iran Asserts Readiness for Balanced Agreement to Ensure Regional Peace

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed on Sunday that Tehran is prepared to reach a "balanced and fair agreement" that ensures lasting peace and security in the region. His comments came during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the two leaders discussed the latest developments following Saturday’s Iran-US talks in Islamabad, which were mediated by Pakistan under a two-week ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

The Iranian president stated that the main hurdle to a deal was the "double standards" employed by the US. "Iran is fully prepared to reach a balanced and fair agreement that guarantees lasting peace and security in the region," Pezeshkian said. He added that such a deal could be achieved "if Washington adheres to international legal frameworks."

Putin, in response, criticized the Western approach of double standards and reiterated the importance of respecting Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also voiced support for Iran’s legitimate positions, including demands for compensation for damages caused by recent military actions and the need for long-term security guarantees to prevent future attacks.
