Hungary Reports High Early Voter Turnout in Parliamentary Elections

(MENAFN) Hungary has seen a significant early voter turnout of 54.14% by 1 pm (1100 GMT) in its crucial parliamentary elections, according to the National Election Office. This marks a sharp increase compared to previous elections, including 40.01% in 2022, 42.32% in 2018, 34.33% in 2014, and 35.88% in 2010.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban, leader of the ruling Fidesz party, encouraged higher turnout as he cast his vote in Budapest, emphasizing that “the more we are, the better it will be.” He acknowledged the government's progress on its goals but called for faster action, assuring that he would respect the voters’ decision regardless of the outcome.

Peter Magyar, leader of the opposition Tisza party, also urged citizens to vote, describing the election as "decisive" and warning that it would determine the country’s political future. He added that his party had mobilized tens of thousands of volunteers to oversee polling stations and would thoroughly investigate any reported election irregularities.

Polls opened at 6 am and will close at 7 pm, with preliminary results expected later in the evening. More than 8 million eligible voters are casting ballots to fill the 199 seats in Hungary's National Assembly.
