Myanmar Road Accidents Leave Nine Dead
(MENAFN) Nine people were killed and at least 18 others injured Sunday after two passenger minibuses overturned in separate road accidents across eastern Myanmar's Shan State, a local police officer told a state news agency.
The first crash struck Kutkai Township, where a minibus lost control due to brake failure, killing five passengers and leaving more than ten others wounded.
Hours later, a near-identical tragedy unfolded in Lashio Township, where a second minibus overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle, claiming four lives and injuring eight more, the officer added.
Emergency responders transported all injured victims to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The twin accidents underscore persistent road safety concerns in Shan State, where mountainous terrain, ageing vehicle fleets, and inadequate infrastructure continue to contribute to a disproportionately high rate of fatal traffic incidents.
