Police Detains Nine Suspects in Attack on Police Post in Istanbul

(MENAFN) According to reports, nine individuals were taken into custody on Saturday in relation to an alleged terrorist attack targeting a police post near Istanbul’s Beşiktaş area.

Investigations are still ongoing, according to prosecutors overseeing the case. Out of a total of 17 people initially detained, 12 were processed further. Nine of them were formally arrested, two were placed under judicial supervision, and one was released after questioning. Three additional suspects remain in custody, while two of the attackers are currently receiving medical treatment.

Reports indicate that investigators found the attackers arrived at the scene in a rented vehicle, exited wearing backpacks and carrying long-barreled weapons, and then opened fire on nearby police units. Security forces reportedly responded with return fire.

Authorities concluded, according to reports, that the attack was organized by ISIS (Daesh).

Some of the suspects are believed to have operated within the group’s structure, maintained connections to it, and provided support to the attackers in line with its directives and objectives.

Earlier reports also stated that three attackers were neutralized in a confrontation with police on April 7 while attempting to prevent the assault, and two officers sustained minor injuries.

Following the incident, a formal investigation was launched by the relevant legal authorities.
