Putin Sends Congratulations to Nizar Amidi After Iraq Presidential Election
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended formal congratulations to Nizar Amidi after his election as president of Iraq, according to a statement released by the Kremlin.
The message expressed hopes for continued development of what it described as traditionally friendly relations between Moscow and Baghdad, highlighting expectations for stronger bilateral cooperation under the new leadership.
“Please accept my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Republic of Iraq,” the statement said. “I wish you success in this high position.”
Amidi was elected earlier in the day after securing a decisive victory in the second round of parliamentary voting, where he reportedly won 227 out of 249 votes. His election marks him as the sixth president of Iraq since 2003.
The Kremlin statement also indicated that Moscow looks forward to further strengthening political and diplomatic ties with Iraq during his tenure, emphasizing continuity in long-standing relations between the two countries.
