Israeli Fire Kills Third-Grade Girl in Gaza
(MENAFN) A Palestinian third-grade student was killed by Israeli gunfire inside her classroom in northern Gaza on Thursday, according to local authorities, marking what officials described as another violation of the ongoing ceasefire.
The Gaza Education Ministry identified the victim as Ritaaj Rihan, stating she was seated at her desk at Abu Ubaida bin al-Jarrah School when she was shot in front of fellow students.
Officials said the incident left classmates deeply traumatized and condemned the killing as a “brutal and horrific crime.”
“It was not an isolated incident, but a direct extension of a systematic policy targeting the Palestinian people,” the ministry said, accusing Israel of broader patterns of violence.
The ministry placed full responsibility on Israel and cautioned that the lack of international response amounts to “complicity.”
Data from Gaza’s Health Ministry indicate that at least 738 Palestinians have been killed and 2,036 wounded in near-daily strikes since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025.
The truce followed more than two years of war that has killed over 72,000 Palestinians, injured upwards of 172,000, and left roughly 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure in ruins.
