Iran Insists Israeli Attacks on Lebanon Must Stop for Ceasefire With US
(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Wednesday that one of Tehran’s requirements for the ceasefire reached with the United States was the cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
According to reports, Pezeshkian shared this during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron.
He explained that stopping Israeli strikes on Lebanon was one of the 10 conditions linked to the agreement with Washington.
Pezeshkian also highlighted France’s significant role as a guarantor of the previous ceasefire in Lebanon.
The Iranian president added that Tehran had acted responsibly by accepting the ceasefire proposal and demonstrated its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
The call occurred a day after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire intended to pave the way for a final resolution to a conflict initiated by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran on February 28.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces carried out a broad series of airstrikes across Lebanon on Wednesday, killing at least 254 people and injuring 1,165 others, according to reports citing Lebanese civil defense sources.
While Iranian and Pakistani officials noted that Lebanon was included in the agreement, Israel maintained that the ceasefire did not cover the country.
