UN Names Bangladeshi Major General as Cyprus Peacekeeping Chief


(MENAFN) The United Nations announced on Wednesday that Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam from Bangladesh has been appointed as the new Force Commander of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

He takes over from Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri, whose leadership of the mission was commended for its dedication and impact, according to reports.

Alam “brings to the position over 30 years of leadership and command experience in the Bangladesh Army,” as stated in an official release.

Prior to this appointment, he served with the Army Training and Doctrine Command and previously commanded the 10th Infantry Division, overseeing operations in Cox’s Bazar.

Throughout his career, Alam has held various command and staff roles across infantry units, managing responsibilities that included counterterrorism, internal security, disaster relief, and intelligence-based operations, according to reports.
