Indonesia Hails Ceasefire Reached Between US, Iran

(MENAFN) Jakarta on Wednesday endorsed the newly announced US-Iran ceasefire, framing it as an encouraging move toward regional de-escalation and urging all parties to seize the moment for lasting diplomatic progress.

Speaking at a press conference, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang outlined Jakarta's position with measured optimism, stating that Indonesia views the truce as a meaningful opening and is pressing all involved sides to capitalize on the opportunity to forge a durable peaceful resolution.

Yvonne further emphasized that meaningful conflict resolution cannot bypass dialogue and diplomacy, reaffirming them as the only legitimate path forward.

The spokesperson also raised the stakes on a broader set of principles, stressing the necessity of upholding freedom of navigation in accordance with international law. Yvonne pledged that Indonesia would remain actively engaged in constructive diplomatic channels, with civilian protection serving as the cornerstone of its foreign policy approach to the crisis.

The ceasefire between Iran and the United States was clinched with less than two hours to spare before the deadline imposed by US President Donald Trump, with both nations agreeing to hold follow-up negotiations in Pakistan.
