Iran Condemns US-Israeli Strikes on Tehran Synagogue as Despicable Crime

(MENAFN) Iran reported on Tuesday that US-Israeli airstrikes destroyed the Rafieinia Synagogue in Tehran, causing damage to Torah scrolls, and called the attack a “despicable crime.”

"This despicable war crime was committed during the Jewish holidays, as Homayoun Sameyah, the representative of Iran's Jewish community in the Parliament, reported," Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on US social media company X.

The spokesman added that the assault is “abhorred by all Iranians” and emphasized, “Iranians are united & resolved in defending their homeland.”

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf noted that the synagogue had functioned as “a house of worship for Iranian Jews for many decades.”

"It was destroyed today in an attack carried out by the Israeli criminals," he added on X.

The region has remained in turmoil since a joint offensive by Israel and the US against Iran began on February 28. Tehran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and air travel.
