Iraqi Militia Releases US Journalist Shelly Kittleson
(MENAFN) Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah militia announced on Tuesday the release of US journalist Shelly Kittleson, instructing her to leave the country immediately, according to reports.
The group’s member, Abu Mujahid al-Assaf, said in a statement on the social media platform X: “The release will not be repeated.”
Kittleson had been kidnapped in Baghdad on March 31, during a period of heightened regional tensions following a joint offensive by Israel and the US against Iran on February 28.
Tehran responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
