Kidnapped US Journalist Freed, Rubio Says
(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday confirmed the release of American journalist Shelly Kittleson, who had been abducted in Iraq in recent days.
"We are relieved that this American is now free and are working to support her safe departure from Iraq," Rubio said on US social media company X.
Earlier, the Iraq-based militia Kataib Hezbollah said it had freed Kittleson and instructed her to leave the country without delay.
Kittleson was taken in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on March 31.
Her abduction occurred against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions following an offensive launched on Feb. 28 by Israel and the United States targeting Iran.
