Airstrikes Trigger Explosions on Iran’s Kharg Island

(MENAFN) Explosions were reported on Iran’s Kharg Island in the Gulf following airstrikes by US and Israeli forces, according to Iranian media on Tuesday.

A state media stated that multiple airstrikes by US and Israeli aircraft caused a series of explosions on the island, though details on casualties or damage were not immediately available.

Last week, US President Donald Trump claimed that all military targets on Kharg Island “have been completely destroyed” and indicated interest in “controlling” Iranian oil, suggesting that seizing the nation’s main oil export terminal was being considered.

Regional tensions have intensified since a US-Israeli offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, which reportedly killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with no recent updates from Iranian authorities. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US forces, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
