Airstrikes Rock Iran’s Kharg Island

(MENAFN) Detonations were reported on Iran’s Kharg Island in the Gulf after joint US-Israeli aerial assaults, according to Iranian media on Tuesday. A news agency indicated that American and Israeli fighter jets conducted multiple bombing runs on the island, triggering a series of blasts.

So far, there has been no confirmed information regarding casualties or the extent of destruction resulting from the strikes.

In remarks made last week, US President Donald Trump stated that all military installations on Kharg Island “have been completely destroyed.”

Trump also signaled an intention to “controlling” Iranian oil resources, implying that taking over Kharg Island—recognized as Iran’s primary oil export hub—was one of the strategies being weighed.

Tensions across the region have continued to intensify since Israel and the United States initiated a military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28. The offensive has reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 1,340 individuals, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, though Iranian officials have not provided updated figures in recent days.

In response, Iran has launched retaliatory drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations that host US military bases. These strikes have led to casualties, inflicted damage on infrastructure, and caused disruptions to global markets as well as air travel.
