Iran Threatens Long-Term Disruption of Regional Oil, Gas Supplies
(MENAFN) Iran has warned that it could disrupt oil and gas supplies in the region “for years” if the United States attacks its civilian infrastructure, according to reports.
In a statement carried by state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it would retaliate beyond the region if what it described as “red lines” are crossed.
“We will damage the infrastructure of America and its partners, which will deprive the United States and its allies of oil and gas in the region for years,” the IRGC threatened.
The statement noted that Iran has so far exercised restraint out of respect for good neighborliness, but cautioned that “all these considerations may now be canceled.” It emphasized that Iran has not targeted civilian sites but would respond if its own infrastructure is attacked.
The warning came after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb power stations and bridges across Iran unless Tehran reopened the Strait of Hormuz and reached an agreement by Tuesday night at 8 pm EDT (0000GMT Wednesday).
Tensions in the region have escalated since a US-Israeli offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, which reportedly killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, though Iranian authorities have not released recent casualty updates.
