Unidentified Projectile Strikes Container Ship Near Iran
(MENAFN) A container vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile roughly 25 nautical miles south of Iran’s Kish Island, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) on Tuesday.
The agency said it received a delayed notification of the incident, noting, “all crew members were safe and accounted for.”
Damage was reported above the waterline, though UKMTO confirmed that “no environmental damage has been reported.”
Maritime authorities have urged vessels operating in the vicinity to “proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity.”
Tensions in the region have intensified since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian officials have not updated the casualty count in recent days.
