Fresh US-Israeli Airstrikes Shake Iran's Kharg Island

(MENAFN) New explosions shook Iran's Kharg Island in the Gulf on Tuesday following fresh US-Israeli airstrikes, Iranian state media reported, deepening a conflict that has already claimed over a thousand lives since hostilities erupted earlier this year.

Media reported that warplanes from both the US and Israel conducted multiple strikes on the strategically vital island, triggering a series of blasts. Casualty figures and the full extent of the damage remain unknown, with no official assessment yet available.

The latest assault follows remarks by US President Donald Trump last week, who declared that all military targets on Kharg Island "have been completely destroyed." Trump had also floated the prospect of "controlling" Iranian oil, signaling that seizing Kharg Island — Iran's primary oil export hub — was being weighed as a potential option.

The strikes are the latest chapter in a widening regional conflict that ignited on Feb. 28, when Israel and the US launched a joint offensive against Iran. More than 1,340 people have been killed in the fighting, among them then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian authorities have not issued an updated death toll in recent days.

Tehran has responded with retaliatory drone and missile campaigns directed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states housing US military installations, inflicting casualties, damaging infrastructure, and sending shockwaves through global markets and international aviation networks.
