US Congresswoman Seeks Impeachment of Defense Secretary Amid Iran War
(MENAFN) US Representative Yassamin Ansari announced Monday that she intends to file articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, criticizing his role in the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.
As stated by reports, Ansari, a Democrat from Arizona, wrote on the social media platform X: “Trump is escalating a devastating, illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran. Pete Hegseth is complicit.” She added, “I’ve called for the 25th Amendment and am introducing Articles of Impeachment against Hegseth.”
Her statements come amid growing concern over US military operations in Iran, including civilian casualties and possible breaches of international law. A preliminary investigation reportedly found US responsibility for a February missile strike on an Iranian elementary school that killed at least 175 people, most of them children.
Trump has faced further criticism for threatening attacks on civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges, with legal experts warning that such actions could amount to war crimes.
Regional tensions have intensified since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on February 28, resulting in more than 1,340 deaths, including the then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities.
