Spain Urges Immediate End to Middle East War to Avoid Global Setback

(MENAFN) Spain’s prime minister has once again called for an immediate end to the ongoing war in the Middle East, cautioning that any further escalation could cause a “devastating global setback.”

According to reports, Pedro Sanchez emphasized the desire for “a prosperous and peaceful Middle East” in a post on social media, following discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

He stressed that Spain demands the conflict come to an immediate halt.

“An escalation of the conflict would mean a devastating global setback,” Sanchez added.

The region has remained tense since a joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran began on February 28, reportedly killing over 1,340 people, including the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, while also restricting the movement of ships through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
