Drone Strike on Kuwait's Largest Oil Refinery Sparks Fires
(MENAFN) A drone attack struck Kuwait's flagship Mina Al Ahmadi refinery early Friday morning, igniting fires across several operational units in the latest escalation targeting Gulf energy infrastructure amid a broader regional conflict, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation confirmed.
In a statement carried by media, the corporation said emergency and firefighting teams were immediately deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. No casualties were reported, and precautionary measures were activated to safeguard personnel and protect critical facilities, it added.
Separately, the Kuwait National Guard moved swiftly to quell public alarm, confirming that radiation levels remain normal across the country and dismissing circulating social media claims of a radioactive leak as unfounded. Continuous around-the-clock monitoring is being conducted in coordination with relevant authorities, it said.
Friday's strike was not the first of its kind. The Mina Al Ahmadi refinery sustained comparable drone attacks last month, which similarly triggered fires in certain units without resulting in any injuries.
The assault comes against a backdrop of sharply escalating regional hostilities. Joint U.S.-Israeli military strikes on Iran began on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and neighboring Gulf states that host U.S. military assets — drawing critical energy infrastructure across the region into the crossfire.
