US Air Force Suffers Second Aircraft Crash in Persian Gulf
(MENAFN) A second US Air Force combat aircraft went down in the Persian Gulf region on Friday, according to local media reports.
Citing two US officials, reports stated that the lone pilot of an A-10 Warthog was safely rescued.
The A-10 attack plane reportedly crashed near the Strait of Hormuz around the same time that an Air Force F-15E was shot down over Iran, the officials said.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told media outlets that President Donald Trump had been briefed on a US fighter jet downed over Iran, later confirmed as an F-15E Strike Eagle.
The Pentagon and US Central Command did not immediately comment on the incident, according to reports.
Media sources citing US officials indicated that one member of the F-15E crew has been rescued and is receiving medical treatment, while search and rescue efforts continue for the second crew member, whose status remains unknown.
The F-15E reportedly carries two personnel: a pilot and a weapons systems officer.
