Russian, UAE Leaders Expresses Concern Over Mideast Escalation
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed “serious concern” over rising tensions in the Middle East, according to reports from the Kremlin.
During a phone call, the two leaders stressed the urgency of ending hostilities and the importance of enhancing political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully, while taking into account the legitimate interests of all regional states, with which Russia maintains longstanding friendly relations.
The statement noted that both leaders were “particularly satisfied” with the strong level of Russian-UAE cooperation, highlighting the successful development of ties across multiple sectors.
Regional tensions have escalated since a U.S.-Israel offensive against Iran began on February 28, resulting in more than 1,340 deaths, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has conducted drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting U.S. forces, causing casualties, damaging infrastructure, and disrupting global markets and aviation, according to reports.
